Early Start
Early Start
Early Start CT (previously School Readiness) is a state-funded early care and education program that launched in July, 2025. Its purpose is to improve access to high-quality early care and education programming for families across the state. Priority for enrollment is granted to families that fall below a certain income level, ensuring equity in school readiness to the greatest extend possible. Under Early Start funding, tuition for the FRC Pre-K program is based on a family’s income and the Office of Early Childhood (OEC) sliding tuition scale.
As a requirement of accepting Early Start funds, districts must screen and monitor each child’s growth and development in all domains. This information is used by the FRC team to support families in facilitating growth for their child.
Early Start also places an increased focus on family and community needs by creating Local Governance Partnerships (LGPs) across the state. These LGPs serve as a community hub for all aspects of early childhood. To contact Branford’s LGP, email: Branford Early Start.
